What is the important role of carbon dioxide in water?
Carbon dioxide is present in most natural waters. Carbon
dioxide in water plays an important role for different sectors in environmental
chemistry.
Coal is used to increase power generation for global industrialization. Again, huge amount of petroleum is being used to increase the number of motor vehicles.
As a result, huge amounts of carbon dioxide are entering the atmosphere from all these sources. The balance of this huge amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is maintained in two ways.
First, the plant absorbs CO2 for
photosynthesis, and second, it dissolves large amounts of carbon dioxide in the
world's water. The
sources of all these waters are the sea, oceans, rivers etc.
Carbon dioxide is a highly
stable inert gas.
Also CO2 can be in liquid and solid state.Since
carbon dioxide is a non-metallic oxide, it has an acidic property.
