What is the use of anthranilic acid in inorganic chemistry?


Anthranilic acid is an aromatic amino acid with molecular formula, C7H7NO2. The other name of anthranilic acid is 2-amino benzoic acid.

There are some organic compounds those are used in inorganic chemistry for the gravimetric estimation of inorganic species. Anthranilic acid is one of them.





Anthranilic acid, the organic precipitating agents, that forms sparingly soluble product either through co-ordinate linkage or through ionic linkage with inorganic species.

That is, anthranilic acid is used in inorganic chemistry for gravimetric estimation of Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+,Zn2+, Cd2+etc.

What is the use of pyrogallol in inorganic chemistry?


Pyrogallol is an aromatic polyhydric alcohol with molecular formula, C6H6O3. The other name of pyrogallol is benzene-1, 2, 3-triol.

The alkaline solution of pyrogallol can absorb oxygen molecule. So, the application of pyrogallol in inorganic chemistry is the identification of oxygen molecule.

When alkaline potassium pyrogallate solution absorbs oxygen gas, then the solution color becomes brown. 

Reaction of pyrogallol with oxygen in presence of caustic potash forms 3-hydroxy cyclohexa-3, 5-diene-1, 2-dione through radical intermediate.

Finally, 3-hydroxy cyclohexa-3, 5-diene-1, 2-dione under goes dimerization and forms a molecular compound changing color brown. The reactions are given below.
